Stand at the base longer, warmer, in the IronRange 140 Belay ParkaWhat Our Gearhead Experts Are Saying:'I spent an entire afternoon belaying at a crag where the sun never hit our wall, and this parka was the only reason I didn't call it early. My hands were the only cold part of me by the end of the day.' Belaying is supposed to be the easy part of a climbing day, right up until a shaded crag turns a simple afternoon into an exercise in staying warm enough to keep giving good feedback. The IronRange 140 Belay Parka from Escape Climbing exists because standing around in the cold shouldn't be the reason a session ends early. It's the heaviest insulated option in the lineup, built specifically to fix the problem of a belayer who's colder than the climber. 140 grams of 3M Type KL insulation adds serious loft while staying light enough to stuff into a pack once the sun comes back around. A belay snap and bottom up zipper keep the parka working while clipped in, and a helmet compatible hood covers the head at exposed anchors without needing to be removed and readjusted constantly. Inside pockets keep a phone from dying in the cold, and toggles at the hem and hood seal out drafts. It's a parka built around the actual, unglamorous reality of standing still at the base of a route for hours at a time. Details- Heavyweight belay parka built for extended cold exposure- 140g Thinsulate insulation holds loft through wet, harsh conditions - Belay snap keeps the parka usable while anchored in - Helmet compatible hood shields against wind at exposed stances - Inside pocket keeps a phone functional in freezing temps - Hem and hood toggles lock out drafts during long belays - Item #E |
